It has been reported that the Carolina Panthers intend to part ways with their tight end Hayden Hurst.

Joe Person, a reporter for The Athletic, was the first to break the news about Hurst.

An anonymous individual informed Person that the team requested for Hurst, who is 30 years old, to take a reduction in salary in order to stay on the team.

According to OverTheCap.com, Hurst has rejected and it is anticipated that the Panthers will terminate his contract before March 16, when he is scheduled to receive a roster bonus of $1.85 million.

According to a report by Person, if the Panthers release Hurst before March 16, they will only free up $52,000 in salary cap space but will have to pay $9.9 million in dead money.

Hurst only played in nine games during the 2023 season due to a concussion injury.

Bryce Young threw his first NFL touchdown pass to Hurst. Hurst ended the season with a total of 18 catches, 184 yards, and one touchdown.

In March 2023, Hurst agreed to a contract lasting three years and valued at $21.75 million.
