A highly-rated defensive lineman, who is being recruited by Division 1 schools, has declared his intention to join the reigning 4A state champions.
A highly skilled junior defensive lineman will be enrolling at Weddington High School, the current 4A state title holder.
On Friday evening, Trajen Odom from Panther Creek revealed his decision to transfer through a post on his X account.
The defensive lineman’s height is recorded as 6 feet and 5 inches, weighing 265 pounds.
Trisha Stafford-Odom, known to Triangle basketball fans as Odom’s mother, was formerly the head coach of the women’s basketball team at NC Central University. In September, it was revealed that Stafford-Odom and the university had ended their partnership. Since then, there has been speculation about potential changes for the family.
He has received offers from numerous universities and colleges, including Appalachian State, Auburn, California, Duke, East Carolina, Florida State, Georgia, James Madison, Maryland, Miami, Michigan State, NC State, North Carolina, New Mexico State, Ohio State, Oregon, Oregon State, Tennessee, UNLV, USC, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Washington, West Virginia, and historically black colleges such as Bethune-Cookman, Jackson State, Morgan State, and NC Central.
Odom is set to become a member of the Weddington defensive line, which currently boasts three power five prospects including freshman Bryce Johnson and sophomore brothers Aiden and Drew Harris. The team also includes sophomore linebacker Thomas Davis Jr., who is already highly regarded as a top 100 player in the 2026 class.
During the fall of his junior year, Odom received recognition for recording 54 tackles, 22 of which were for a loss, and causing a fumble. In his sophomore year in 2022, he tallied 41 tackles and 11 tackles for a loss. Throughout his career, Odom has accumulated nine sacks.
This is the statement that Odom shared on his X profile.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Panther Creek High School and my fellow Catamounts for the incredible past three years. I have grown and improved as a person thanks to all the support and guidance I have received from everyone. I am especially thankful to Dr. Decker and all the administrators and counselors, as well as my football coaches, basketball coaches, teachers, trainers, managers, stat keepers, teammates, parents, classmates, photographers, PA announcers, and security guards. I am grateful for those who challenged me and kept me accountable, especially Coach Crocker. I appreciate your dedication in teaching and coaching me, and allowing me to develop into the person I am today. I will always cherish my time playing and competing as a Catamount under your leadership. However, I will be transferring to Weddington High School for my senior year next week.”
