A fatality and at least 21 other individuals were injured by gunshots during a Super Bowl celebration in Kansas City.
On Wednesday, a shooting occurred near Union Station in Kansas City, resulting in one fatality and 21 individuals suffering from gunshot injuries. The incident disrupted a celebration for the Super Bowl victory, causing chaos as numerous fans wearing red jerseys fled to safety.
The individual(s) responsible could not be determined. During a press conference, the Kansas City police chief announced that three individuals had been taken into custody. The chief did not disclose their names and stated that investigators were unable to determine a motive. The chief urged the public to provide any potential footage or details that may assist in determining the events.

The chief of the Kansas City Police Department, Stacey Graves, reported that one individual had died and authorities were still determining the total number of injuries. According to police, at least two of the suspects were armed and a third person had been apprehended.
Twelve individuals were transported to University Health, which was previously known as Truman Medical Center, according to Keith King, a spokesperson for the hospital. Among them, eight were receiving medical care for gunshot injuries, with two in critical condition. Laurel Gifford, a spokesperson for Saint Luke’s Hospital, reported that one victim with a gunshot wound was in critical condition at their facility. Additionally, three other individuals arrived at the hospital with injuries.
According to Lisa Augustine, a spokesperson for Children’s Mercy, the hospital is caring for 12 individuals who were present at the rally. Out of those 12 patients, 11 are minors. Augustine stated that nine of the wounded individuals sustained gunshot injuries.
The Chiefs’ win was commemorated with a gathering at Union Station, a popular tourist destination and transportation hub in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. According to Graves, after the rally ended, gunshots were reported on the west side of Union Station and one suspect was quickly pursued on foot.
Several government representatives attended the rally, such as the governors of Kansas and Missouri. Governor Laura Kelly of Kansas had to leave for safety and shared on social media that she is now in a safe location. Governor Mike Parson of Missouri and his wife were confirmed to be safe and secure by the governor’s office.
Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City team that won on Sunday, shared on social media that he was sending prayers to Kansas City.
