(7) Southeast Alamance wins first boys soccer playoff match, trounces (26) SouthWest Edgecombe
HAW RIVER, N.C. — It took about eight minutes for Southeast Alamance to score in Saturday’s first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A boys soccer playoffs.
From then on, the Stallions were unbridled.
With a whopping 10 goals in the first half, Southeast Alamance mercy-ruled SouthWest Edgecombe 10-0 to pick up the second-year school’s first playoff victory. And they only needed one half to do it.
The seventh seeded Stallions (16-6), who were champions of the Mid-Carolina Conference, got a few quick goals and assists from Edgar Carbajal and pulled most of the starters with a 7-0 lead late in the first half.
SouthWest Edgecombe (13-8-2), the 26th seed in the 2A East, was enjoying a breakout season. The Cougars’ previous seasons didn’t come close to 13 wins, having not won more than seven games in any of the last 10 seasons. In seven of the last 10, SouthWest Edgecombe has won five or fewer matches.
Southeast Alamance will host 23rd seed North Lenoir on Tuesday. The Hawks upset 10th-seeded Midway 4-3 on Friday.
