(3) Seaforth gets revenge for their conference tournament defeat and knocks out (11) Northwood in 2A girls’ basketball playoffs.

Shortly after losing to Northwood in the conference tournament finals, Seaforth defeated their local rival in the state playoffs.

Seaforth relied on their defensive skills to secure a 54-36 victory against (11) Northwood in Tuesday’s NCHSAA 2A girls basketball playoffs. This marks the third defeat of the Chargers by Seaforth this season.

Scoring proved to be a challenge for Northwood in the initial period. Despite numerous opportunities, the Chargers had difficulty converting their shots. Only 12 points were added to their scoreboard, with a mere four of those being from successful field goals.

Despite a solid defensive performance by Northwood, limiting Seaforth to 14 points in the first two quarters, the Hawks were able to establish a significant 28-12 lead by halftime.

In the first half, Hannah Ajayi had 10 points to lead Seaforth. The Hawks also made a total of seven three-pointers in the first two quarters.

In the third quarter, Northwood made some progress, but the Chargers continued to have difficulties on offense. They scored 9 points compared to Seaforth’s 7, but were unable to build enough momentum to stage a comeback.

In the first three quarters, Gabby White only scored five points from one field goal. However, in the fourth quarter, she assisted in stabilizing Seaforth and contributed 15 points, leading to their 54-36 victory.

In the game, White’s strong performance in the fourth quarter resulted in a total of 20 points, making her the top scorer. Ajayi contributed 12 points for the Hawks, and they were the only players on the Seaforth team to reach double figures.

Shaylan Glover was the only player from Northwood to score in double-digits, ending the game with a total of 12 points.

As of now, Seaforth has a record of 27 wins and 3 losses for the season. They will be hosting St. Pauls, ranked 15th, during the fourth round of the playoffs on Friday evening. This will be a repeat of their first game of the season. Seaforth previously defeated St. Pauls with a score of 62-26 on November 20th.

During the previous season’s playoffs, Seaforth and St. Pauls faced off in the fourth round. The Hawks emerged victorious, leading them to a second place finish in the state.

Northwood finished their season with a record of 24-6. Out of their six defeats, three were against Seaforth.
