2A regional preview: Players to watch and facts to know about each team
Good morning, it’s time to preview Day Four of this year’s N.C. High School Athletic Association’s regional championships, which features the 2A classification. This is the second year of a “final four” format, and the winners of today’s regional finals will play in the state championships on Saturday.

Let’s get to today’s schedule, a quick by-the-numbers preview of each team, plus a list of the best players that will take the floor for these 2A regional finals.
Today’s schedule — Wednesday, March 12
2 PM — 2A East Girls: (12) Southeast Alamance (27-3) vs. (2) Seaforth (28-2)
4 PM — 2A East Boys: (4) West Bladen (27-1) vs. (3) Northwood (29-2)
6 PM — 2A West Girls: (2) East Burke (30-1) vs. (1) North Wilkes (29-1)
8 PM — 2A West Boys: (15) Bandys (22-7) vs. (1) Reidsville (29-0)

Each 2A Regional Finalist — By The Numbers
Southeast Alamance girls (27-3)
- 2 — two of the Stallions’ only losses this year have come to Seaforth, but they did win one
- 47 — number of wins Southeast Alamance has in two years of existence with just 11 losses
- 0 — number of seniors on the roster
Seaforth girls (28-2)
- 19 — in the four years since Seaforth opened, the Hawks’ fewest wins in a season is 19
- 16 — losses in Seaforth’s existence, posting a 102-16 record
- 3 — this is Seaforth’s third time in the East regional final in its four-year existence
West Bladen boys (27-1)
- 17 — years since the Knights made it to the championship game
- 34.4 — points allowed per game by West Bladen this year, only Farmville Central hit 60 points (all three times they played)
- 1 — West Bladen won just one game in the shortened 2021 season
Northwood boys (29-2)
- 177 — career wins for coach Matt Brown, who started in 2017-18
- 4 — Northwood’s fourth trip to the regional final in the last six years
- 18 — straight wins for the Chargers entering Thursday
East Burke girls (30-1)
- 4 — the Cavaliers’ only loss this year was by four points to 4A regional finalist McDowell
- 18 — the closest margin of victory for East Burke in these playoffs
- 755 — career assists for Braelyn Stilwell (the full record book only goes to fourth place, which is 813)
North Wilkes girls (29-1)
- 36.3 — the Vkings are giving up this many points per game
- 9 — this year’s seniors won just nine games, going 9-15, when they were freshmen
- 22 — straight wins entering Thursday
Bandys boys (22-7)
- 15 — as the 15-seed, Bandys is the only true Cinderella in all classes this year
- 1982 — the last time the Trojans earned a spot in the state championship, winning it all
- 5 — five of their seven losses came to conference opponents, finishing third
Reidsville boys (29-0)
- 52 — straight wins for the defending 2A champs
- 3 — players averaging more than 15.3 points per game, with two more than 20

- Shaniya Paylor, Southeast Alamance — a fireball of energy at the point
- Ralee Bare, North Wilkes — few 5-foot-10 players can run the point like she can
- Kara Brinkley, East Burke — let me find out they got the perfect Pippen to Stilwell’s Jordan
- Shalyn Bare, North Wilkes — the sophomore is a double-double machine
- Katie Leonard, Seaforth — shooting 40 percent (48-of-119) from 3 this year
- Peyton Collins, Seaforth — the perfect “glue guy” and third option
- R’reana Johnson, Southeast Alamance — the freshman has a bright future ahead
- Clara LaChapelle, Southeast Alamance — the Stallions’ best rebounder
