252 beats 919 in 2025 Showcase Bowl

The fourth annual 252 vs. 919 Showcase Bowl was played on Saturday at John Paul II Catholic High School in Greenville.

The bowl features seniors from the eastern North Carolina area codes. Over 15 college coaches attended this year’s game to take a final look at unsigned seniors.

252’s team won the all-star game by a score of 21-10.

Havelock High School quarterback Jaylen Hewitt was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player. He threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Northeastern High’s Tyell Saunders and then rushed for a 32-yard touchdown by himself, all in the opening quarter. Hewitt finished 11-of-17 for 126 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Southeast Raleigh High School senior Damonte Garner was the only player to score a touchdown for the 919 team. He had a two-yard run in the second quarter. Holly Springs High School kicker Matt Hannegan made a 25-yard field goal for his team;s other score.

With the game at 14-10 in favor of the 252, Farmville Central High School’s Ja’Quez Dixon secured the victory with a 20-yard fumble recovery and touchdown return in the fourth quarter. Currituck County kicker Luca Costanzo made all three of his extra point attempts.

Garner High’s Braden Selvage was the quarterback. He completed 13 of 25 passing attempts for 128 yards and an interception. Hillside’s Ameil Braswell led the 919 in rushing yards with 56.
