On Thursday, a Russian rocket successfully sent an Iranian satellite into orbit, highlighting the growing partnership between Moscow and Tehran.
The Roscosmos corporation of Russia announced that a Soyuz rocket successfully launched from the Vostochny launch site in the eastern part of the country, carrying a satellite from Iran and 18 satellites from Russia into orbit.
According to Iranian state television, the satellite weighs 110 kilograms (242 pounds) and is equipped with three cameras for capturing images related to environmental, agricultural, and other endeavors.
According to Iran’s national television, the satellite will be placed in orbit above the Earth’s North and South Poles. It will be positioned to remain in a fixed location in relation to the Sun and will become operational once its systems have been calibrated.
The launch on Thursday follows Russia’s successful deployment of Iran’s Khayyam satellite back in 2022.
According to the TV announcement made by Iran’s Communication Minister Isa Zarepour, the country has had a combined 23 launches in its space program, with 12 of those occurring during President Ebrahim Raisi’s term.
