Standard is a football club from Belgium located in Liege. It was established in 1898 and after 11 years, it became a part of the Belgian First League. Despite initially falling to lower leagues, the club made a comeback in 1921 to the top division. In 1958, Standard earned their first Belgian League championship, although it should be noted that they were tied in points with Royal Antwerp, who placed second.

In 2009, the Reds secured their tenth national championship by defeating Anderlecht in the final match. The skilled midfielder Axel Witsel scored the decisive goal for Standard in their 1-0 victory against their fierce competitors. Standard hosts their matches at Stade Maurice Dufrasne, a facility that was established in 1909 with a capacity of 30,023.

From 1909 to 1931, Maurice Dufrasne served as the chairman of the club. Standard also experienced success in Europe, reaching the final of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1982, but ultimately lost to the La Liga powerhouse Barcelona.
