Standard is a football club from Belgium located in Liege. It was established in 1898 and after 11 years, it became part of the Belgian First League. Although they dropped down to lower leagues initially, they were able to make a comeback to the top division in 1921. In 1958, Standard earned their first Belgian League championship, but it should be noted that they were tied in points with Royal Antwerp, who came in second place.

Standard secured their tenth national championship in 2009 by defeating Anderlecht in the final match. The skilled Axel Witsel scored the decisive goal for Standard, leading them to a 1-0 victory over their fierce opponents. Their home matches are held at Stade Maurice Dufrasne, which was established in 1909 and has a capacity of 30,023.

Maurice Dufrasne served as the chairman of the club from 1909 to 1931. In terms of the club’s achievements in Europe, Standard competed in the final of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1982, ultimately falling to Barcelona from La Liga in the championship match.
