Kalidou Koulibaly

Although he was born in Saint-Die-des-Vosges, France on June 20, 1991, Kalidou Koulibaly plays for Senegal in international competitions. He first played for Saint-Die during his youth career, but also spent time at Metz early in his career.

The defender, who predominantly uses his left foot, remained with les Grenats at the highest level. It is worth mentioning that he played in 42 league matches for the team before moving to Genk in 2012. In 2014, Koulibaly agreed to a five-year contract with Napoli for a transfer fee of £6.5 million. In August of that year, he made his first appearance in the Champions League for the club, playing in a 1-1 draw against Athletic Club.

Kalidou Koulibaly is a tall, quick and physically strong footballer, who is impressive in the air. He is capable of playing as both centre and full back. The Napoli defender made his Senegal debut in September 2015 against Namibia. In 2017 he represented the Lions of Teranga at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Team in focus (Ivory Coast):

Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast has solidified their position as one of the top African teams over time. In 2015, the Elephants claimed their second Africa Cup of Nations title, defeating Ghana in the final match. The victory came after a penalty shootout, where goalkeeper Boubacar Barry scored the winning goal.

Several well-known soccer players have represented the Ivory Coast national team, including Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue, Salomon Kalou, and Gervinho. The team is recognized for their orange uniform, but they wear green shirts and shorts for their away games. Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny is considered the team’s main home stadium.

Didier Zokora holds the record for most appearances on the Ivory Coast national team (123), while the previously mentioned forward Didier Drogba is the team’s leading goal scorer (65 goals). Drogba is considered a symbol of Ivory Coast football and represented the national team from 2002 to 2014, after playing for Chelsea.
