Established in 1877, Crewe Alexandra competes in red jerseys and white shorts for their home games, and their away kit is primarily yellow.

In 1877, the Railwaymen faced North Staffs in their debut game at Alexandra Recreation Ground, resulting in a 1-1 tie. Currently, Crewe competes in League 2 and faces Port Vale as their primary rivals. In 2014, a match between the two teams led to violence and arrests. In 2013, Crewe Alexandra secured the Football League Trophy after beating Southend United 2-0 in the championship match held at Wembley Stadium. Max Clayton and Luke Murphy scored the winning goals, allowing the Railwaymen to claim their inaugural and sole Football League Trophy victory.
