Established on April 1, 1910, S.C. Farense is a Portuguese club that plays in Primeira Liga. Farense returned to Primeira liga in 2020, with the team securing promotion to the Portuguese elite division following an 18-year absence.

The Leoes de Faro (Lions of Faro) play home games at Estadio da Sao Luis, the stadium with the capacity of 12,000 people. Fellow Algavre clubs Olhanense and Portimonense are regarded as Farense’s biggest rivals. Speaking of the club’s colours, Farense footballers wear black and white shirts when playing at home, while their away kit is mainly green.

In the 2995/96 season Farense represented Portugal in the UEFA Cup, with the team suffering a loss to Olympique Lyon in the first round of the competition. The 1994/95 season is considered the club’s most successful campaign in the Portuguese top flight as they finished the process in 5th position in the standings.
