Carlisle United is a football team that was established in May 1904 and is currently a professional club in League 2. They possess one of the largest stadiums in the league, called Brunton Park, which can accommodate up to 18,202 fans. During home games at Brunton Park, the team wears blue shirts and blue shorts, but their away uniform is sky blue.

Carlisle United has a longstanding rivalry with Workington and Barrow, however, it should be recognized that they have not competed in the Football League since the 1970s. In the 1996/97 season, the team achieved their first Football League Trophy by defeating Colchester United 4-3 in a penalty shootout.

The Cumbrians repeated the success 14 years later (2010/11) as they defeated Brentford 1-0, thanks to Peter Michael Murphy’s goal. Carlisle United recorded their biggest win against Hartlepool United (8-0) on September 1, 1928, with the team suffering their heaviest defeat to Hull City (1-11) on January 14, 1939.
