Quaker Oats is recalling certain granola products due to potential contamination with salmonella.

Quaker Oats issued a recall on Friday for multiple granola items, such as bars and cereals, due to potential salmonella contamination.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, Salmonella infections can result in symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. In rare instances, this bacterial illness can be deadly.

PepsiCo’s brand, Quaker, announced in a press release that there have been no reports of salmonella infections associated with the recalled granola items. These include oats cereals and Quaker Chewy Bars, which are also found in PepsiCo’s snack mixes.

Quaker has confirmed that the impacted items were purchased in all 50 states of the United States, as well as in U.S. territories. The company is advising individuals who have purchased the recalled products to dispose of them and reach out to their customer service line or visit the recall website for further details and reimbursement options.

Based on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 1.35 million people in the United States contract salmonella each year, resulting in around 26,500 people needing hospital care and 420 fatalities.
