NC State’s Davin Vann ready to lead Wolfpack defense in 2024 :: WRALSportsFan.com

NC State has a lineage of local leaders on the defensive side of the ball. With Payton Wilson off to the NFL, Cary native Davin Vann is back for a 5th year with the wolfpack and ready to fill the leadership void. Vann sat down with WRAL’s Pat Welter at ACC Kickoff to set expectations for himself and the season.

All right for the, for the go go go. So fifth year Davin, what made you wanna come back? Um I just felt like there was a lot of things that were left undone and there was a lot more that I could do for the program in the school. So that was really one of the big pro uh big reasons why I wanted to come back and sacked Davin Van again tonight. There’s been some big leaders on the defensive side of the ball last couple of years, Drake Thomas Peyton Wilson, you feel like you can be that next guy. I, I definitely think I can. Um just because, you know, I spend so much time with those guys and they’ve, they’ve helped guide me in the right direction. So, you know, I’ve learned a lot from them and I think that it’s time for me to step up. You’re a soft spoken guy in person but a monster on the football field. Uh Is there a switch you flip kinda? Yeah, I mean, it just, it happens naturally. I it’s not something that I try to do just on the field is different, that energy just makes me play different, feel different. Yeah. How much of an honor was it for you to wear the number one jersey? That was a huge honor. Number one, I’m telling for coach Jordan to pick me was I wasn’t really expecting it. So when he, when he asked me if I would wear number one, it was kind of just a sh, a shock. But a real big honor has playing with your brother Ryland been everything you hoped to be. I honestly didn’t think he’s gonna wanna go to the same college as me just because, you know, he’s my little brother and I, I thought he would like, kind of felt like he was living in my shadow, but I’m real glad he got to come. Uh, it takes the whole brotherhood aspect of football to a whole new level. We’re hearing a lot about the offense this preseason and it feels funny to say this. Are we sleeping on the NC State defense? I definitely think we are. I mean, of course we’re gonna miss PW. I mean, who wouldn’t miss a player like Peyton? But, uh, we have some dogs that are ready to go play. I say 12 team playoff in NC State. What do you say? I think we, we, we’re gonna make it, we’re gonna get there. Hey, they, they made it 12 for a reason. It opens the door. Right. Yes, sir.
