Earlier this offseason, Northeast Guilford hired Antwon Stevenson to serve as its next head coach. Stevenson decided to bring on Parris Baxter to be his new defensive coordinator. About a month later, Stevenson took the head coaching job at Ragsdale, which is much closer to where he lives.

Northeast Guilford chose to slid Baxter into the top role. Baxter was determined to be ready for the post after proving to be a quality assistant coach for multiple seasons at the high school and college levels.

Baxter is originally from Prince Georges County in Maryland. He attended Duval Senior High School and was a three-sport athlete (football, basketball, & track). He was a college football player. Baxter played at Shepherd University as corner and safety during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He then transferred to Winston-Salem State and played there for the 2012-2014 seasons. He was a free safety under Connell Maynor. He made an appearance in the D2 national championship in 2012 and won multiple CIAA championships at Winston-Salem State.

When he became a coach, Baxter started at Glenn High School in Kenersville under Stevenson. He coached there in 2016 and then again in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He was an outside linebackers and defensive backs coach for the Bobcats.

In 2017, Baxter went to Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro to coach under head coach Brandon Wiggins (the current coach at Chambers). In his time at Smith, Baxter was a JV defensive coordinator, assistant defensive coordinator, and defensive backs coach.

Baxter became a college coach in 2021 when he was hired as the defensive backs coach, study hall coordinator, and assistant recruiting coordinator at Fort Valley State University. He was under head coach Maurice Fowler, who played under A&T grad Sean Gibbs at Johnson C. Smith.

In 2023, Baxter coached at Catawba College under Tyler Haines. He was the corners coach and had the title of academic support.
