Mike Elko, head coach of Duke University, speaks about the speculation surrounding his potential move to Texas A&M.
Durham, N.C.
Duke’s football coach, Mike Elko, is aware of his name being linked to the open head coaching position at Texas A&M.
On Sunday, Jimbo Fisher, the head coach of Texas A&M, was fired.
During his weekly press conference on Monday, Elko, the former defensive coordinator at Texas A&M from 2018 to 2021, expressed his dedication to Duke.
Elko stated that he is extremely content in his current location. He expressed excitement about the unique projects they are undertaking. His family shares in this happiness and they have a strong affection for Duke. Elko believes that when one performs well, it may be perceived as a sign of leaving, while poor performance may also lead to assumptions of departure.
Elko, who is 46 years old, holds a 15-8 record in his first two seasons as the head coach at Duke. This is his first position as a college head coach.
Elko stated that while he tries to ignore such matters, he is not completely unaware of them. The team has discussed and dealt with the issue because it requires attention, but Elko is unsure of its origin.
