Wake Forest QB Kavon Simmons commits to Duke

Duke landed an in-state commitment from a quarterback that it offered not too long ago.

Wake Forest High School passer Kavon Simmons announced his choice to attend the university on his X account on Friday. The rising senior’s pledge came five days after the offer came from the Blue Devils.

Duke’s verbal offer came on the heels of Yale University extending the opportunity a day prior. Yale itself followed fellow Ivy League school Cornell, which came in a week before.

Before Cornell, Yale, and Duke became the first Division I schools to get involved, he received offers from UNC Pembroke and Shaw.

Simmons’ profile says he is 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds.

During his junior season, Simmons completed 136-of-269 passing attempts (50.6%) for 1,999 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also had 711 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. As a sophomore, Simmons completed 89-of-175 passing attempts (50.9%) for 1,487 yards, 13 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Last fall, Simmons helped Wake Forest to a 7-5 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the NAC 6 Conference. The Cougars made it to the second round of the 4A East playoffs
