Portugal vs Slovenia Prediction & Betting Tips | 01/07/2024 | Football

Our prediction for this Euro 2024 match:

Portugal

Portugal

Slovenia

Slovenia

Portugal will be aiming to recover from a shocking 2-0 loss to Georgia when they take on Slovenia in the EURO 2024 last 16. A Selecao failed to impress in their last group game, but it has to be noted that boss Roberto Martinez mixed the squad. Rafael Leao is back from suspension, while the likes of Vitinha, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Pepe, Joao Cancelo, and Bruno Fernandes should be recalled to the starting XI.

The Slovenians, on the other hand, did well to hold star-studded England to a draw to make it to the last 16, but they will have a big fish to fry against CR7 and Co. Even though Slovenia defeated Portugal 2-0 in a warm-up game earlier this year, we are tempted to put our money on the nominal hosts as Roberto Martinez is going to field the best possible side this time out. Defender Erik Janza is banned for the away team due to the accumulation of yellow cards.

Prediction:

Highlighted Player (Cristiano Ronaldo):

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is considered one of the world’s best football players. The Portuguese ace was born on 5 February, 1985 in Funchal, Madeira and he played for the likes of Andorinha, Nacional and Sporting during his youth career. CR7 made his Sporting debut in Primeira Liga on 7 October, 2002, scoring two goals in a 3-0 win over Moreirense.

Manchester United scouts spotted him and one year later he joined the Old Trafford outfit. Ronaldo became the most expensive teenager in the history of the Premier League and he received the number 7 shirt. He quickly established himself as the team’s key player and it has to be noted that he won three consecutive Premier League trophies with the Red Devils (2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009). In 2008 he helped the Old Trafford outfit beat Chelsea in the Champions League final, scoring for Alex Ferguson’s troops in the regular time.

Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in 2009 and he helped the Spanish giants with two Champions League trophies. In 2016 he won the European Championship trophy with Portugal. The Real Madrid ace has two Golden Ball awards (2013, 2014).

Highlighted Team (Slovenia):

Slovenia

Slovenia have been competing on the international stage following the split of Yugoslavia in 1991. The Slovenians were outclassed by France in their first unofficial match (0-5), whilst they shared the spoils with Estonia in their first official game (1-1).

The former Yugoslav republic participated at three major football tournaments, with the team making it to the FIFA World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea (2002) and South Africa 2010, whilst booking their place at the Euro 2000 which was hosted by Netherlands and Belgium. Slovenia, though, have yet to make it to the knockout stages of the major tournament and that remains their unfulfilled dream.

Srecko Katanec and Zlatko Zahovic are regarded as the most famous footballers who played for the Slovenian national football team and they were part of Slovenia’s “Golden generation”. The Slovenians, who recorded their biggest win against Oman in 1999, welcome their rivals at Ljudski vrt in Stozice and the capacity of the venue is 12.702.
