Dudley state, national champion Le’Ezra Brown named Gatorade NC Player of the Year in boys track

Dudley High School junior Le’Ezra Brown was named the Gatorade North Carolina Boys Track & Field Player of the Year on Thursday.

Brown, who stands at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, is a hurdler and sprinter at Dudley who has won multiple state championships and is a nation champion hurdler.

At the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A state championship meet, Brown was named the most outstanding performer with four first-place finishes and two new state meet records.

Brown set a new record in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 13.55, beating the previous recorded by 0.33 seconds. He also won gold medals in the 100 meter dash and the 300 meter hurdles, then helped the 4×400 meter relay team set a new state meet record and claim another gold medal with a time of 3:15.16.

The performance by Brown helped Dudley win the 3A team title as well.

Brown won the national championship in the 110 meter hurdles, posting a time of 13.72 seconds, which earned him All-American status. His best time in the event came in the USATF U20 Championships where he posted a time of a 13.49 seconds, the sixth best time this season among all high school boys in the country.

After the season, Brown was named to the HighSchoolOT All-State Team. He was also an all-state selection for boys indoor track & field.

“Harnessing both the speed on the open flat and technique over the barriers, Le’Ezra Brown will undoubtedly have college recruiters abuzz next year,” said Rich Gonzalez of PrepCalTrack. “It’s not often that an athlete will win the national title in the 110 hurdles at one meet and challenge for the crown in the open 100 at another, but he’s a special talent .”

Brown is also a football player for the Panthers.

When he’s not competing in sports, Brown serves on the Dudley Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and he has volunteered at his church.

Brown holds a 3.02 weighted grade point average and will begin his senior year at Dudley this fall.
