The 2024 HighSchoolOT All-State Boys Golf Team

The 2024 HighSchoolOT All-State Boys Golf Team

The fourth-annual HighSchoolOT boys golf team features 16 athletes making an appearance on the team for the second or third time, led by three players who became three-time all-state honorees: Mitchell’s Connor Warren plus Terry Sanford’s Ethan Paschal and Thomas Horne.

To help make the team, each player’s handicap index is calculated based on their finish in either the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association or N.C. High School Athletic Association’s state championships. Championship finish was the main factor in determining who was first, second, or third team, but the handicap index was helpful in determining which players had the toughest course to navigate. There are 10 players for each of the three teams.

For NCISAA players, some consideration was also given to their regular season handicap index, particularly because only one of its three championships was able to play on both days due to weather.

The NCHSAA does not require its schools to post season-long scores, so its players do not have a regular season handicap. Only 1A was unable to play both days of its championship event.

NCHSAA players were given some special consideration based on regional success and success in some of the state’s top midseason tournaments — the HV3 Invitational, the North State Challenge, the Carmel Shootout, the Pinecrest Invitational, and The Neuse Invitational. A title in one could be the difference in making an honorable mention team or breaking a tie for the last spot on a second or third team.

There are seven slots on the honorable mention team that take into account championship finish, regional victories and in-season tournament performance.

The full teams are below, with selections listed in order of handicap index. The last number after the backwards slash is the player’s handicap index based on championship performance.
