Charlotte Catholic picks Keith Emery as its next head football coach

After a search that lasted about one month, Charlotte Catholic High School has found its next head football coach.

The Cougars hired Keith Emery, who was most recently the director of high school relations for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s football program.

Emery is most well known for his time as the head football coach at Division III Western New England University in Springfield, MA. He was that program’s leader for 13 seasons. Emery is the school’s all-time wins leader with an overall record of 86-49. He led the team to three consecutive conference championships and four overall NCAA playoff appearances.

The coach has also served as the defensive line coach at Presbyterian College (Clinton, SC), assistant coach at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD), and an assistant coach at Kenyon College (Gambier, OH).

He has coached at the high school level in Connecticut and served as an assistant at both Providence Day School and Myers Park High School in Charlotte.

Emery will be just the fourth head coach in the last 50 years at Catholic. Previous head coach Matthew Reilly left after one season to take over the program at his alma mater, St. Xavier Catholic High School in Cincinnati, OH.

Charlotte Catholic is coming off of a 9-4 overall season in which the Cougars made it to the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 4A West playoffs. There, they fell to eventual state champion Weddington in a 37-7 contest.
