Cannon School takes No. 1 in final boys lacrosse rankings for the 2024 season

Cannon School is the No. 1 team in this year’s final HighSchoolOT boys lacrosse rankings. The Cougars were N.C. Independent School Athletic Association D1 state champions and have a whopping six wins against teams that finished inside the top 10.

Joining the Cougars as state champions in the final top 25 were No. 2 Green Level, the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A champion whose only losses came to Cannon School and No. 10 Middle Creek, NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A champ Lake Norman Charter at No. 12, and NCISAA D2 champ Greensboro Day at No. 25.

In total, 20 teams in the preseason top 25 also made it in the final 25, with No. 11 Myers Park the highest of those who began the year unranked. Cannon School was also the preseason No. 1 team, but got knocked from that perch for eight weeks after an early loss to Charlotte Catholic (Catholic’s first loss came in the NCHSAA 4A playoffs to Marvin Ridge, placing the Cougars sixth in the final rankings). Eight teams from the preseason top 10 also finished in the final top 10.

In total, 18 teams from the preseason top 25 made the final statewide rankings, with No. 11 Myers Park the highest-ranked team who was unranked at the outset. Of the preseason top 10, eight of them ended in the final top 10. Cannon School began the year ranked first but fell from the top spot after a loss to Charlotte Catholic in the second week of the season.
