South Brunswick junior Kina Davis has been named the state’s top softball player from the 2024 season by Gatorade.
Davis was named the Gatorade North Carolina Softball Player of the Year on Friday morning after helping South Brunswick to the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A state championship this spring.
The 5-foot-6 right-handed pitcher was 21-4 in the circle, which included 15 shutouts and five no-hitters. She recorded a 0.49 ERA, fanning 340 batters in 172.2 innings pitched, while walking just 18.

South Brunswick finished the season with a 27-4 record en route to winning the state title.
Last season, Davis was named to the HighSchoolOT All-State Team and the N.C. Softball Coaches Association All-State Team as a sophomore. All-state teams for the 2024 season have not yet been released, but it is likely Davis is on the list again this year.
When she’s not playing softball, Davis is very involved in her church community. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and she is involved in the Health Occupations Student Association, which helps promote career opportunities in healthcare and works to increase the quality of healthcare provided to all people.
Davis has also used her softball skills and knowledge to work as a private instructor and camp counselor for youth softball players.
Davis holds a 4.16 grade point average and has committed to play softball at Charlotte after graduating high school in 2025. She is the first softball player from South Brunswick to win the Gatorade Player of the Year Award.
