— Gracie Brian and Madison Wolfbauer scored two goals each for the NC Courage as they defeated Soccerhead 5-3 in The Soccer Tournament in Cary on Saturday night at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Chelsee Washington scored Soccerhead’s goal to temporarily tie the score in the first half. Brian scored twice in the first half to give the Courage a 2-1 lead at the break.

Wolfbauer scored two second-half goals to extend the lead to 4-1. Ashley Oswald scored for Soccerhead to make it 4-2.

Olivia Wingate scored the final goal for the Courage, who advanced to the TST semifinal with the victory.

FRIDAY GAMES

On Friday, the North Carolina Courage split a pair of games in the $1 million women’s tournament at The Soccer Tournament at Cary’s WakeMed Soccer Center.

The Courage won their first match 2-1 over Burnley FC, but dropped a 4-2 game to Tampa Bay Sun on Friday night.

The Courage needs a victory against Soccerhead on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to advance to Sunday’s semifinal round in the eight-team event.

All four teams in the Courage’s Group B are 1-1, meaning Saturday’s winners will advance.

In the opener agaisnt Burnley FC, Sarah Clark scored a goal for the Courage in the final seconds of regulation to tie the score at 1 and Madison Wolfbauer scored the winning goal in overtime. Wolfbauer led the team with five shots while Sinclaire Miramontez had an assist. Samantha Witteman attempted four shots.

Courage goalie Lauren Kellet made eight saves.

The Soccer Tournament is a 7-on-7 competition featuring 56 all-star teams vying for $1 million prizes. It is in its second year and first with a standalone women’s event.
