T.C. Roberson wins back-to-back 4A baseball titles, sweeps Ashley
The NCHSAA 4A Baseball State Championship is headed back to T.C. Roberson (28-4) and Asheville after the Rams completed their back-to-back state championship bid by defeating the Ashley Screaming Eagles (25-6) Saturday afternoon at Burlington Athletic Stadium. The Rams got hot early and rolled to an 8-1 win. The Screaming Eagles championship run ends at 25-6.
The Rams picked things back up where they left off the previous night jumping on the Screaming Falcons early in the first inning. Caden Davidson got things rolling with an RBI double to quickly make it 2-0. Micah Simpson then followed right behind him with a single on a grounder to left. T.C. Roberson found themselves up 3-0 heading into the bottom of the first.

To kick off things in the second the Rams loaded the bases and Jackson Lee was relieved for Cane Mehling. The Rams took advantage of that and made it 4-0 thanks to an RBI single from Jake Parham. Davidson then brought home another run by reaching first on an error and a single from Simpson made it 6-0 Rams.
The Screaming Eagles found themselves down big in the second but found a spurt of momentum loading the bases and eventually found the scoreboard on a sacrifice fly from Will Hartzell to make it 6-1. That would be the only run plated by Ashley in the second.
The Rams picked things right back up in the third when Parham plated a perfect bunt that brought a runner home and Davidson hit a line drive to center to make it 8-1. Ashley was shut down in the third with three quick outs.
The Screaming Eagles did manage to slow down the Rams offense in the fourth but couldn’t get anything going on offense and headed to the fifth trailing 8-1. The Rams defense got three quick outs in the fifth as we headed to the sixth. The Screaming Eagles couldn’t get anything going as the Rams closed things out for the series sweep.
Reno Jeter was awarded the win for the Rams going one inning giving up one run on zero hits and walking three. CJ Wallace came in for relief out of the bullpen and got to work immediately going six innings giving up zero runs on one hit while sitting down four batters and walking one.
As for Ashley Jackson Lee, took the loss going one innings giving up five runs on three hits, walking three and striking out one. Cane Mehling came in for relief and went six innings giving up three runs on eight hits while walking one batter and striking out one.
