Three-time all-state PG Kate Sears commits to Virginia Tech

Watauga rising senior Kate Sears has made the HighSchoolOT all-state girls basketball team in all three of her seasons. Now, she knows where she’ll be going after her fourth high school season.

Sears committed to Virginia Tech on Monday night.

Sears made the all-state first team after averaging 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.2 steals on 46-33-75 shooting splits. She was also named to the coaches’ all-state team.

She led Watauga to the 4A West regional final, which was the school’s first appearance in the “final four.”

She also made the second team all-state as a sophomore and third team all-state as a freshman.

She has 1,851 points in her career and 202 made 3-pointers, making her among the career leaders in the state entering her senior year.
