Former Carolina Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell was named the president of hockey operations, general manager and alternate governor for the Columbus Blue Jackets, the franchise announced on Tuesday. The previous club president, John Davidson, will now serve as a senior advisor and alternate governor. Waddell resigned from his position with the Hurricanes on May 24.

Waddell was hired by the Hurricanes as president in 2014 and eventually moved into the general manager role in 2018. Carolina has made the postseason in six straight seasons, winning at lease one series each year.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the Columbus Blue Jackets as this is an organization that has everything you need to have success at the highest level,” Waddell said in a statement. “It’s a wonderful city with passionate fans, strong ownership, first-class facilities, and a desire to be the best. I’d like to thank the McConnell family, Mike Priest and John Davidson for this opportunity, and look forward to being part of this community.”

Eric Tulsky has been named interim general manager for the Hurricanes and a full search has begun for a permanent general manager. Darren Yorke will support Tulsky with managerial duties while continuing in his role as assistant general manager.

“I have loved my experiences in the Triangle over the past 10 years, and together with a strong team, on and off the ice, we have accomplished many great victories,” Waddell said in a statement after resigning from his position with the Hurricanes. “I am grateful for the support I have received from so many loyal Caniacs. This organization is in strong, capable hands and well-positioned for the future.”
