Green Hope High School dominates the competition, defeating last year’s state champions Millbrook High School.
On Tuesday evening, Green Hope defeated Millbrook, the 2022 4A volleyball champions, in a 3-0 sweep.
Green Hope ultimately won with a 25-23 score. Evelyn Carlson, a sophomore for the Falcons, expertly hit the ball over the net, forcing the Wildcat defenders to make difficult attempts at defending.
During the initial set of tonight’s match, the Millbrook team demonstrated a formidable performance, causing the Falcons to take a timeout when they fell behind 15-11 after a successful kill by senior Kiarrah Horne.
Green Hope didn’t back down and climbed its way back into the match and closed Millbrook’s lead 18-17. A final surge by the Falcons put the first set in the favor 25-21.
During the second set, Millbrook found themselves behind once again with Green Hope in the lead at 19-13, resulting in the Wildcats calling a timeout. Mistakes from both teams kept the set competitive. Green Hope capitalized on Millbrook’s errors and strategically executed kills to secure a 25-22 win.
Millbrook was determined not to lose in their home arena. Towards the end of the third set, both teams displayed strong defensive skills, resulting in a tied score of 21-21. Despite Green Hope maintaining a small lead throughout the set, Horne and his team, the Wildcats, were able to regroup and play with more confidence.
Carlson from Green Hope made a fantastic play for the Falcons by keeping the ball in play, just out of reach for the Wildcat defender.
In the third round of the 4A NCHSAA Volleyball Championships, Green Hope, ranked 11th, will go up against Chapel Hill, ranked 3rd.
