With the Rangers looming in the second round the Canes wasted no time in game five. Teuvo Teravainen scored top shelf on pass from Seth Jarvis 1:23 into the game to give the Canes the early lead.
Andrei Svehcknikov has been one of Carolina’s better players this series and finally has a goal to show for it. At 3:13 Svechnikov scored from in close on the power play to give Carolina a quick 2-0 lead.
Hockey moves so fast blink and you might miss it, the Islanders got on the board less than forty five seconds later on a power play goal by Mike Reilly to cut the lead to 2-1.
Game five continued to check off items on the hockey bingo card with a penalty shot at 13:22 for Evgeny Kuznetsov. Kuznetsov has been quiet since scoring the first goal of the series but showed his elite puck handling skill on his signature slow and steady approach on the PK to give Carolina 3-1 lead.
