Ballantyne Ridge picks Chris Redding as the first head football coach in school history

On Thursday, the new Ballantyne Ridge High School made it official: Chris Redding will be the school’s first head football coach. Redding stepped down from his previous role as the head coach at Berry Academy in January to align himself for the Ballantyne job.

The new school will open up with a varsity team this fall. It resides just outside of the Ballantyne community in South Charlotte.

Ballantyne’s mascot will be the Wolves and its school colors are Carolina Blue, Clemson Orange, and Determined Grey.

Redding hails from Bennington, VT. He was the Offensive Player of the Year for Burr & Burton Academy in 2012. He played wide receiver at the University of New Hampshire, a Division I FCS school, from 2013-17. Two of those teams were ranked in the top five nationally.

Ardrey Kell High School, Ballantyne’s soon-to-be most proximate rival, hired Redding for his first coaching position. The Knights went 17-4 during Redding’s time there. After Aredrey Kell, Redding was hired at the University of Albany, another FCS program, to be the wide receivers coach and special teams assistant. He took the head job at Berry in 2022.

Redding helped Berry to a 4-15 overall record in his two seasons as the school’s coach. The program has not produced a winning record since 2011.
