According to NFL Network reporters Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the Carolina Panthers are making a deal to send edge rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants.

On the social media platform X, Rapoport shared that the Panthers will be receiving a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick as part of a trade. The years of the picks were not specified.

Burns, who will be 26 in April, is set to earn a five-year contract that could potentially reach $150 million, with $87.5 million guaranteed.

Burns’ $30 million average annual salary makes him the NFL’s second-highest paid defensive end behind San Francisco’s Nick Bosa.

The trade occurred following the Panthers’ previous announcement that they would employ the franchise tag on Burns.

In the 2023 season, Burns recorded a total of 8 sacks.

In the last five NFL seasons, the first-round draft pick of 2019 has accumulated a total of 46.0 sacks and has received Pro Bowl honors twice. This places him among only five players in the league who have achieved 7.0 or more sacks for five consecutive seasons.

In 2022, it was rumored that the Panthers rejected an offer from the Los Angeles Rams for Burns, which included two first-round draft picks.
