The 17th ranked Hoggard team maintains offensive momentum in dominant victory over Cleveland.

Hoggard girls’ soccer team dominated Cleveland on Thursday evening, with five different players scoring.

The Vikings scored five goals in the first half and maintained their lead throughout the game. With a final score of 8-1, their overall record for the season is now 4-0.

The pace set by Ellis Kelly established the tone.

At the eighth minute mark, Carlie Moroz skillfully passed the ball past the Rams defense, allowing the Memphis commit to finish the play.

Hoggard took an early 1-0 lead with a 1-on-1 finish.

In the 21st minute, Kelly was in a familiar situation where she was facing the keeper by herself. She successfully scored her second goal of the night, giving her team a 2-0 lead.

Chaylen Hines maintained the energy by scoring two consecutive goals, extending the lead to four.

Hines calmed and shot the ball just under the crossbar for her first goal. Later, she had an open path towards the goal when Kelly lured the goalie away from the net during a 2-on-1 chance and passed it for the final scoring play.

With less than a minute left in the first half, Kelly scored a goal from a corner kick, adding to Hoggard’s lead of 5-0 going into halftime.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Kelly received the ball and had enough room to grab the attention of the Cleveland defenders. She then successfully passed to Jordan Devoid for her first goal of the game.

After almost scoring with multiple attempts earlier in the game, Avery Fisher was finally credited with a goal in the 51st minute with a powerful shot that made it into the goal.

With a score of 7-0, newcomer Brielle Archer maneuvered through the opposition’s defense, creating enough room to secure a goal.

With only six minutes remaining, Cleveland scored their one and only goal. Grace Keighley scored her sixth goal of the season, breaking the scoreless tie.

Hoggard has scored more points than its opponents by a margin of 25 to 3 so far this season. They will have a break for a week before facing the current 4A state champions, Ardrey Kell.

On Saturday, 2-1-1, Cleveland will travel east to Wilson to compete in the Brittany Willis Memorial Scholarship Soccer Showcase against Apex Friendship.
