If we can define personality as a continuous string of effective actions, then the personality of South Central’s girls basketball program can be described as the following: generous in offense, relentless in defense, and swift in both.

The lineup for the Falcons on Friday’s N.C. High School Athletic Association second-round 3A playoff game was inconsequential because the expectations for the game had already been established.

South Central advanced to the third round with a commanding 78-46 victory against Vance County. The game’s running clock was activated after South Central took a 78-38 lead with 4:55 remaining.

The Falcons, ranked first with a record of 26-2, will be hosting Scotland, the ninth-seeded team, on Tuesday. They dominated the Vipers, who are ranked 22-4, with a halftime score of 46-21, largely due to their strong defense that limited Vance County, ranked 16th, to only three points in the second quarter.

Sophomore Brooklynne Evans scored 20 points for South Central, while NaZiya Vandergrift of Vance County had the most points in the game with 24, scoring eight 3-pointers.
