The brackets for the state football playoffs have been established and the initial round will occur in the upcoming week.

The NCHSAA distributed the ultimate brackets for football state playoffs at around 2:35 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

There are 64 teams in the state football playoffs, resulting in six playoff rounds.

The initial round of the playoffs will take place on Friday, November 3rd, followed by subsequent rounds every Friday until December 1st when regional championships will be held. The team with the higher seed will host each of the five first rounds.

The state football championship matches will take place on December 8-9 at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh and Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill. The specific schedule and assigned locations for the championships will be announced at a later time.

On Saturday morning, the NCHSAA unveiled the final RPI rankings, which are utilized to select at-large teams for the playoffs and seed the brackets. This marked the start of the process to determine the playoff brackets.

Following the publication of the RPI rankings, the NCHSAA has announced the initial playoff brackets. These preliminary brackets allow schools to review for any mistakes and make inquiries to the association if needed.

2023 NCHSAA Football State Playoff Schedule

• On November 3rd, the first round will be held at the location of the higher seeded team.

• On November 10th, the second round will take place at the team with the higher seed.

• On November 17th, the third round will take place at the location of the higher ranked team.

• On November 24th, the fourth round will take place at the higher seed’s location.

• On December 1st, the regional championships will take place at the location of the higher seeded team.

• Dec. 8-9 – State championships @ NC State & UNC
