The Green Level girls are matching the success of their undefeated boys team, as they secured their eighth consecutive victory by coming from behind to defeat Wakefield 47-39 in the MLK day showcase event.

Ryan Baker made four three-point shots and was the top scorer with 15 points, while Deana Prasad scored 12 of her 13 points in the second half.

In the first quarter, both teams struggled to score on offense. The Wolverines’ Nicole Amend made the team’s first two baskets, while the Gators’ scoring began with two consecutive three-pointers from Baker.

In the last minute of the first quarter, Maddison McIntyre made a quick move to the basket and successfully completed a three-point play, resulting in Wakefield taking a 9-6 lead.

The Wolverines rapidly extended their advantage to nine points by scoring six consecutive points at the beginning of the second period. Sydney Conti and Jaya Hamilton joined forces with McIntyre, resulting in Wakefield’s biggest lead of the game at 15-6.

However, Green Level responded with a 10-2 run and entered halftime down by only one point.

When the second quarter horn rang, Claire Barber made a three-point shot that went straight into the net, bringing the score to 17-16.

In the third quarter, Barber scored a three-pointer to continue the run, and after that, Green Level maintained their lead for the rest of the game.

Prasad’s nine points, highlighted by a seven-point streak, were instrumental in a crucial 10-0 run.

Hamilton made every effort to keep Wakefield within a reachable distance, scoring two baskets at the end of the period. This put the Wolverines at a score of 33-26 going into the fourth quarter.

Ultimately, Baker’s impressive shooting proved to be too difficult for the Wolverines to defend against. In the final three minutes of the game, the junior guard sank her fourth three-pointer and then earned three more points through traditional means on her next possession.

Baker’s three-point play helped Green Level gain a significant advantage of 41-30, their largest lead.

After a 2-3 start to the season, the Gators have improved to a 9-1 record. This Friday, Green Level will face Middle Creek in the first of a four-game road series, with a current conference record of 4-1.

The Wolverines suffered a loss, dropping their record to 10-5. This marks their second consecutive loss. They will now travel for a game against Wake Forest on Friday evening.
