The newest statewide Top 25 girls basketball rankings from HSOT now includes South Central.

North Pitt’s stint in the top 10 of the HSOT Top 25 girls basketball rankings was brief. On Wednesday, the Panthers suffered a defeat to South Central by a margin of 15 points. Previously, North Pitt had emerged victorious against the same team with a lead of 24 points. As these rankings are based on recent performance, North Pitt has now dropped one spot below South Central.

The team from South Central debuted in the rankings at position 21.

Greensboro Day jumped from the 11th to the 8th spot, previously held by North Pitt. The Bengals currently hold a record of 19-2. In their first game of the season, they were defeated by Grace Christian, our top team, by only 16 points. This margin of victory is much smaller compared to other teams’ losses against the Crusaders.

Below are some details about the methodology used for ranking girls’ basketball teams:

  • Every Monday, the rankings are updated and made public on a weekly basis.

  • All high schools in North Carolina, except for athletic training academies, qualify for the top 25 ranking in the state.

  • The state’s six area codes have their own top 15 list, which is updated weekly.

  • During the playoffs of the N.C. High School Athletic Association, rankings will be put on hold.

  • The rankings will be published the week following the state championships.
