Avery Scoggins from Middle Creek High School has been chosen as the Gatorade Player of the Year for volleyball.

Avery Scoggins, a senior at Middle Creek, has received the title of Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year for the 2023 volleyball season.

Scoggins, a senior this autumn, stands at 6 feet tall and plays as a setter for the Mustangs. She contributed to Middle Creek’s impressive 26-1 record and their victory in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state championship.

Middle Creek defeated Cox Mill in three consecutive sets to claim the state title. Scoggins was awarded the title of Most Valuable Player for the championship game, having recorded 33 assists.

Scoggins, in her senior year, tallied a total of 919 assists, 218 digs, and 110 kills. She also contributed 54 service aces and 45 blocks, achieving a .455 kill percentage and a .355 hitting percentage. Scoggins received Second Team All-American recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Scoggins was also selected for the HighSchoolOT All-State Team as well as the N.C. Volleyball Coaches Association All-State Team.

Scoggins maintains a 4.34 GPA in her classroom studies. She has committed to playing volleyball for the University of Arizona starting this autumn.
