In Saturday’s game, Mark Mitchell achieved a personal best of 23 points, with 19 of them being scored in the second half. No. 14 Duke was able to secure a 67-59 win over Notre Dame as they pulled ahead in the second half.
Mitchell, who stands at 6 feet and 9 inches, also collected 14 boards, maintaining his strong performance halfway through the season. In the team’s victory against Syracuse on Tuesday evening, the second-year forward put up 21 points.
The Blue Devils of Duke University (11-3, 2-1 in the ACC) secured their sixth straight win. Jeremy Roach had a perfect record of 9 for 9 from the free-throw line, contributing 18 points to the team’s total. Jared McCain also made a strong showing with 11 points.
Markus Burton, a first-year guard, was the top scorer for Notre Dame with 18 points. Braeden Shrewsberry contributed 12 points, including four successful 3-point shots.
The Notre Dame basketball team, with a record of 6 wins and 9 losses overall and 1 win and 3 losses in conference play, had a 24-15 advantage over their opponents with 7 minutes and 6 seconds remaining in the first half. Mitchell stepped up and contributed 14 points for Duke in the second half. Despite Notre Dame’s attempt to catch up with Tae Davis’ layup, Duke stayed ahead with a layup by Kyle Filipowski and a putback by Mitchell.
Mitchell made 8 out of 12 shots from the field, and successfully made both of his 3-point attempts. Prior to the game, he had only made 1 out of 22 shots from beyond the arc.
Mitchell stepped up to compensate for a less-than-stellar showing by the 7-foot Filipowski, who only scored seven points on a 2-for-12 shooting.

Duke’s basketball team had a total of 11 turnovers, with nine of them occurring in the first half. They were able to capitalize on these turnovers, scoring 18 points compared to Notre Dame’s five. Duke also had a strong performance at the free throw line, making 17 out of 21 attempts, while Notre Dame only made 8 out of 16.
Kebba Njie helped Notre Dame with a boost of nine points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.

On Tuesday, Duke will travel to Pittsburgh for a game against the Panthers. This will be the first of two matchups between the two teams in their next three games.
