Brayden Schenn found the back of the net in the fifth round of the shootout, securing a 2-1 win for the St. Louis Blues against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday evening in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Schenn had gone 16 games without scoring a goal, but as captain, he managed to make a significant impact in the end. He did not have a specific plan for the shootout.

Schenn stated that his career currently lacks productivity and he has not scored in a considerable amount of time. He emphasized the importance of not overthinking the situation.

In the fourth round, both Carolina’s Sebastian Aho and St. Louis’ Jake Neighbours successfully scored.

Nathan Walker netted a goal during regular play, contributing to the Blues’ consecutive victory. Jordan Binnington also had a strong performance, making 29 saves and only allowing one goal for the second consecutive game.

Binnington expressed enjoyment when he’s in a rhythm like that. He also mentioned that it feels good to be winning games against strong opponents.

Carolina’s Teuvo Teravainen found the back of the net, while Antti Raanta made 21 saves. Unfortunately, the Hurricanes’ five-game winning streak came to an end in the first game of their six-game homestand.

Unfortunately, things didn’t come together in the end,” stated Rod Brind’Amour, the coach of Carolina, whose team has a record of 10-3-4 at home.

Out of their last seven games, the Blues have emerged victorious in five. Prior to this, they had not participated in any shootouts since their first two games of the season.

Schenn expressed that the team is aware of their efforts and the fact that success does not come without hard work. They must push through challenging games and strategize to secure victories.

In only his second NHL appearance since December 15, Raanta made a noteworthy play in overtime by blocking a shot from Brandon Saad around the middle of the extended period.

At the end of regulation, Carolina had taken 28 shots compared to 19 for their opponent.

“Neither team was showing much effort,” stated Brind’Amour. “It was clear what was happening.”

In only his second game of the season, Walker successfully scored his first goal in the NHL.

Teravainen snapped a five-game drought without a point by scoring on a faceoff for his 14th goal of the season. This extended Carolina’s streak of scoring at least one power-play goal to seven consecutive games.

In the second period, the Hurricanes attempted 13 shots on goal. However, in the third period, they did not take a shot until over 10 and a half minutes had passed. This was a significant change from the previous night, when Carolina scored five goals in the third period against Washington.
