Fernandez was appointed to coach at Rocky River for a duration of two years. He assumed leadership of the team prior to the 2022 season. In his first year, the team’s overall record was 2-8 and they finished with a record of 3-7 in the fall under Fernandez’s guidance.

Before Fernandez joined, Rocky River had a record of four or fewer wins in each of the past seven seasons. Out of their 14 varsity football seasons, the Ravens have had a winning record in only three.

After excelling on the offensive line at Fuquay-Varina High School, Fernandez continued his football career at Appalachian State University.

The statement made by Fernandez was as follows:

Although it is challenging for me to write this, I would like to provide an update to all program participants.

Regrettably, on January 3rd, Principal Legrand notified me that I have been dismissed from my role as the Head Football coach at Rocky River. A post has also been shared to inform everyone. I will address the team tomorrow morning.

Over the last two seasons, I have devoted all my efforts to this program and the young men involved. I am grateful to my team and the players for their hard work and commitment to football at Rocky River. My main goal was to help these young men develop into responsible individuals, both on and off the field.

I am available to support you, players! I will always be here for you and I hope you have gained valuable life lessons from this incredible game. Please know that I wanted to reach the end with all of you and I wish nothing but success for Rocky River!

I am grateful for the support and confidence you have shown in shaping these young men. We could not have achieved what we did without your backing!
