. The initial 2024 boys basketball rankings show significant shifts in the top 10 teams.

Following several holiday tournaments that included dominant victories and challenging defeats, HighSchoolOT’s ranking of the top 25 teams in the state has experienced significant alterations.

Two new teams, Hickory and Weddington, have entered the top 10 rankings. Meanwhile, Lake Norman and Richmond have dropped out. Reidsville has made a significant leap from No. 7 to No. 3 in the state. Despite losing to No. 1 ranked Myers Park in overtime at The John Wall Holiday Invitational championship game, Christ School has risen from No. 10 to No. 6.

The Top 25 now includes seven new teams: Northside Christian, South Mecklenburg, Ben L. Smith, South Stokes, The Burlington School, Davidson Day, and Chapel Hill.

The latest standings for the 910 area code reveal a different top-ranked team this year. Undefeated New Hanover, with a record of 9-0, has moved into first place after Richmond suffered its fourth defeat of the season.

These are some key points to understand how our boys’ basketball rankings function:

  • The rankings are refreshed every week and published on Mondays.

  • All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
  • The state’s six area codes have their own top 15 list, which is updated weekly.

  • During the playoffs for the N.C. High School Athletic Association, rankings will be put on hold.

  • The final standings will be published one week following the state championships.
