Here are the 2023 holiday basketball tournaments in North Carolina

During the week after Christmas, high school basketball tournaments are a well-known custom. There are several of these tournaments held in North Carolina. The following is a compilation of the tournaments, the participating teams, and their locations. Most of them will commence on December 26th.

The 36th installment of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Classic.

The Tarlton Complex at Catawba Valley Community College is located in Hickory, NC.

Dates: December 27, 28, 29 2023

The teams competing are: Alexander Central, Bunker Hill, Fred T Foard, Hickory, Maiden, Newton-Conover, South Caldwell, and St. Stephens.

The schedule for the girls’ games on Wednesday is as follows: 9:00 AM – #2 St. Stephens versus #7 Maiden, 12:00 PM – #3 Fred T Foard versus #6 Bunker Hill, 3:00 PM – #1 Alexander Central, and 6:00 PM – #4 South Caldwell versus #5 Hickory.

The following are the game times for the Boys on Wednesday: 10:30 AM – Maiden ranked at #2 versus Fred T Foard ranked at #7; 1:30 PM – St. Stephens ranked at #3 versus Alexander Central ranked at #6; 4:30 PM – Hickory ranked at #1 versus Bunker Hill ranked at #8; 7:30 PM – South Caldwell ranked at #4 versus Newton-Conover ranked at #5.

Battle In The Bull Holiday Invitational

Location: Falls Lake Academy

The girls’ games on Wednesday will take place at 11:30 AM with Vance County facing off against Northern Nash, and at 6:00 PM with Granville Central taking on Bunn.

On Wednesday, the schedule for the boys’ games is as follows: 1:00 PM – Carrboro vs. Corinth Holders, 2:30 PM – Vance County vs. NW Halifax, 4:30 PM – Henderson Collegiate vs. Rolesville, and 7:30 PM – East Wake Academy vs. Bunn.

Champion Durham Classic

Location: Hillside High School (Durham)

Dates: Dec. 26-28

The teams participating are as follows: (Girls) Millbrook, Hillside, Jordan, Southern Durham, North Raleigh Christian, Durham School of the Arts; (Boys) Durham School of the Arts, Hillside, Cummings.

This is a scheduling method where each team in a competition plays against every other team in the competition.

This scheduling technique, known as Round Robin, involves every team in a competition facing off against all other teams in the same competition.

Chick-fil-A Mount Airy Holiday Invitational

Location: North Surry High School (Mount Airy)

At 1:30, there will be a match between West Stokes and Galax (Virginia).

At noon, there will be a game between Starmount and Surry Central.

The game between Starmount and Surry Central will begin at 1:30.

At 3:00, there will be a game between Mt. Airy and West Stokes.

Location: Crest High School (Shelby)

Dates: Dec. 27-29

The teams participating are Burns, Crest, Chesnee from Georgia, and Hendersonville.

On Wednesday, December 27th at 3:00pm, the Chesnee Girls will face off against Hendersonville, followed by the Chesnee Boys taking on Hendersonville at 4:30pm. Then at 6:00pm, the Crest Girls will play against Burns, and finally at 7:30pm, the Crest Boys will compete against Burns.

The annual Farris and Thomas Holiday Basketball Tournament takes place each year.

Place: Fike High School in Wilson

Dates: Dec. 27-29

The participating teams include both male and female students from Beddingfield, Fike, Hunt, and Southern Nash high schools.

On Wednesday, December 27th, there will be a girls’ semifinal game between Beddingfield and Hunt at 5pm, followed by another girls’ semifinal game between Southern Nash and Fike at 6:30pm. The boys’ semifinal game between Southern Nash and Fike will take place at 8pm. On Thursday, December 28th, there will be a girls’ 3rd place game at 6pm and a boys’ semifinal game between Beddingfield and Hunt at 7:30pm. On Friday, December 29th, there will be a boys’ 3rd place game at 5pm, followed by the girls’ championship game at 6:30pm and the boys’ championship game at 8pm.

Christmas Tournament for Boys with Freedom

Location: Freedom High School (Morganton)

Dates: Dec. 26-28

The list of teams includes CHASE, Draughn, Freedom, Hibriten, Hickory Christian, North Cross (VA), T.C. Roberson, and West Caldwell.

The schedule for the first round is as follows: on December 26, the games will be Hibriten vs. T.C. Roberson at 1:00, Hickory Christian vs. West Caldwell at 2:30, Draughn vs. North Cross at 5:30, and CHASE vs. Freedom at 8:30.

Christmas Girls’ Freedom Tournament

The teams include Asheville School, Concord Academy, Draughn, East Rutherford, Freedom, Hibriten, RS Prep, and T.C. Roberson.

The schedule for the first round is as follows: On December 27th, at 3:00 PM, Lab Prep will play against Providence Day, followed by Ballou (VA) versus Gaston Day at 4:30 PM. At 6:00 PM, East Rutherford will face off against Shelby, and at 7:30 PM, Kings Mountain will compete against Palisades.
