Amaris Williams, a student at Clinton High School, gained attention on National Signing Day when he changed his decision from Florida to Auburn.
Williams is a 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive lineman who is highly regarded by all major recruiting websites, earning a four-star rating.
According to 247Sports.com, Williams is ranked as the top player in North Carolina for the Class of 2024 and the 34th best player in the nation. He is also considered the 8th best defensive lineman in the United States.
On June 17, Williams officially announced his commitment to Florida, just one day after arriving for his scheduled visit.
In October, Ohio State offered Williams a spot on their team. He then went on an official visit to the Buckeyes. There were rumors that he might change his mind and choose Ohio State, but he was also considering Auburn.
Based on MaxPreps’ data, Williams had a total of 34 tackles, with 20 of them resulting in a loss and 11 being sacks, throughout 11 games this autumn. However, there may be some games that are not accounted for on MaxPreps. During the same period, he is recognized for rushing 679 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns on 39 carries. Additionally, he scored one touchdown through receiving.
Williams guided Clinton to a second-place finish in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A state championship game.
Williams was offered scholarships by several universities, including Auburn, Florida, and Ohio State. Other schools that made offers to Williams include Appalachian State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Florida A&M, Georgia, James Madison, Liberty, NC State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Penn State, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia.
