Fisher scores twice to lead No. 6 Hoggard past Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – Hoggard has spent the last week taking its dominant season to another level.

Last Friday, the Vikings defeated defending state runner-up Ashley to claim sole possession of first place in the Mideastern Conference.

Behind two first-half goals from Avery Fisher, Hoggard went on the road and earned a 4-1 win on Wednesday against reigning 3A state champion Jacksonville.

The Wake Forest recruit broke the ice six minutes in when she tried to connect with Brielle Archer, but the pass deflected off a defender and in for a 1-0 lead.

With Sophia Scott on the ball, Reese George parked in front of the keeper and scored on a 21st-minute corner kick to push Hoggard’s lead to 2-0.

Five minutes later, a Taylor Williams goal kick quickly flipped the field and set up Fisher’s second of the night.

Jacksonville got on the board with four minutes left in the half when Ryder Perry drew the attention of Williams, and Caroline Doyle was opposite post to find the back of the net.

Leading 3-1 in the second half, Ellis Kelly put the finishing touches on the victory by winning a race to a 50/50 ball and calmly sliding it past Emma Erickson.

Hoggard is now 16-1 overall. The Vikings have won six straight and are 10-1 in league play. They host West Brunswick on Thursday before closing the regular season against Topsail and New Hanover next week.

Jacksonville dropped to 13-4-2, but the Cardinals are a pristine 11-0 in the Big East Conference. They travel to New Bern next week for a conference match.
