The Soccer Tournament returns: Wrexham, top women’s players in field for $1 million prize

TST, The Soccer Tournament, brings its unique format back to Cary’s WakeMed Soccer Park June 4 through 9. Follow 64 teams — men and women — through 134 matches of 7-on-7 soccer with $1 million on the line for the winners.

The Soccer Tournament is actually two tournaments. Men’s teams and women’s teams play round robin then knockout style until a winner is crowned. Each winning team takes home a $1 million prize.

US Women: Led by Heather O’Reilly, the winners of 2024 TST are looking to defend their title

Solo FC: Goalkeeper Hope Solo has recruited this team of young stars and soccer legends to keep everyone else out of the net.

North Carolina Courage: The home team made it to the finals last year and is ready to ride their home field advantage to a big win.

McAfee, Wrexham headline men’s TST 2025

The 48 men’s teams include:

Borussia Dortmund: The 8-time Bundesliga champions.

Club América: One of Mexico’s most successful and historic football clubs.

West Ham United FC: Making a return to the tournament after playing in the inaugural TST in 2023.

Wrexham Red Dragons: The Welsh club made famous on FX and owned by American celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Hashtag United: One of the most experienced teams in TST, owned by YouTube star Spencer Owen.

CONCAFA: The soccer club led by ESPN’s Pat McAfee, who will broadcast live from the event.

Games begin on Wednesday, June 4, at 8 a.m. with the men’s group stage. All 48 men’s teams compete — in 12 groups of four teams — and 32 advance to the knockout stage.

La Bombonera, the 2024 men’s champion, and Abarrotera Hidalgo kick off on Field 1 while Liga Fut7 faces the Mississauga Dolphins on Field 5.

There are 48 games on that first day across seven fields, with kickoff times from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Thursday, June 5, is another jam-packed day of soccer action. The men’s group stage play continues with two games that start at 10 a.m. Pumas de Alabama meet Dark Horse NC United, and Reggae Rovers play Say Word FC.

Men’s group play wraps Thursday night with the Mississauga Dolphins taking on Abarrotera Hidalgo at 9:45 p.m.

Tickets are available for day or evening sessions, with a grounds pass allowing access to all games during a single session starting at $25. A men’s group stage bundle — tickets for Wednesday day and evening sessions and Thursday — costs $95.

A women’s group stage bundle, an all-access pass for Thursday and Friday’s day and evening sessions, costs $125.

Women’s group stage play begins Thursday at noon with two games. Solo FC, led by Hope Solo, takes on the Speedy Turtles while Albion DC meets Streetball FC Canada.

The 16 women’s teams play three rounds of group play through Friday night. The NC Courage take on Bumpy Pitch in the Friday night cap at 9:30 p.m.

All 16 games in the men’s knockout round of 32 take place on Friday, June 6. Session tickets are $45 during the day and $50 at night. 

Saturday’s day session features the men’s knockout round of 16. Eight games start at 9 a.m. and end around 4 p.m.

Saturday night showcases the quarterfinals for both the men’s and women’s tournaments. 

Sunday’s single session, from 1:30 to 9 p.m., offers fans a chance to see four matches, the semifinals for both men and women, at a cost of $35.

On Monday night, June 9, see which teams take home the $1 million prize. The women’s championship kicks off at 7 p.m. followed by the men’s championship at 8:30 p.m. A single ticket gives fans access to both games with prices starting at $40.
