No. 12 West Stokes routs Forbush baseball in six innings
FORBUSH, N.C. — West Stokes got up off the mat. Having just lost the night before, just its second time on the season, the Wildcats baseball team put it out of mind one hit at a time.
And another hit at a time. And another. And another.
No. 12 West Stokes rapped out 14 hits and had six batters with two base knocks, then got a two-hit shutout to defeat Forbush 11-0 in nonconference action on Thursday night.
Both teams entered the night 24 hours removed from losses to 4A teams. West Stokes fell 8-4 to Reagan, while Forbush lost 5-4 in nine innings to Mooresville.
Forbush (9-5), ranked 10th in the 336 area code, is from the Foothills Conference.
The Falcons were forced into a pitching change in just the second inning and got their only two hits of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
West Stokes (11-2), ranked 12th statewide and tops in the 336 area code, is in the Mid-State (2A, not to be confused with the 3A league of the same name).
Wildcats pitcher Riley Tuttle had a perfect game going through the first 11 batters he faced. He struck out nine and walked one, staying on the mound for all six innings.
At the plate, West Stokes was led with two hits apiece by Andru Hall, Dylan Gastley, Eli Edwards, Gus Santoro, Sam Reeves, and Mikah Webster.
Gastley, Santoro, and Webster had two RBIs each while Spencer Boles led the way with three.
