Kate Sears, Dionte Neal named Players of the Year as NCBCA releases all-state teams
The N.C. Basketball Coaches Association released its all-state team, players of the year, and coaches of the year for the 2024-2025 boys and girls basketball seasons.
Watauga’s Kate Sears was named the player of the year on the girls side, while Reidsville’s Dionte Neal was named the boys player of the year.
Sears is a 5-foot-9 senior guard at Watauga who has committed to Virginia Tech. She was named the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year this season as well after recording 13 triple-doubles in 28 games. Sears averaged 27.2 points, 13.1 reboundsa, and 9.3 assists per game.
Neal was also named the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year. The 5-foot-9, 150-pound junior point guard led Reidsville to back-to-back 2A state titles after averaging 22.8 points, 9.1 assists. 7.0 steals, and 4.9 rebounds per game.
McDowell’s Zack McCartha was named the Coach of the Year in girls basketball, while the boys basketball Coach of the Year award went to Travis Pait of West Bladen.
The players and coaches of the year were released as the NCBCA announced its all-state teams as well. Each all-state team included a first, second, and third team with five players on each team. The awards are voted on by basketball coaches who are members of the NCBCA.
Earlier this month, the NCBCA released all-district teams for both boys and girls basketball as well.
