No. 5 West Forsyth caps off big week with key conference win over No. 11 Reagan

PFAFFTOWN, N.C. – It took a team effort for West Forsyth to improve to 10-0.

All nine players reached base, and eight combined to pound out a dozen hits in a back-and-forth 7-4 win at Reagan.

UNC recruit Sydney Horton went 3-for-3 out of the lead-off spot with a crucial two-run home run. Madisen Barringer and Taylor Alderman anchored down the middle of the order with four hits and three driven in. Ava Moore reached base twice with an RBI and run scored out of the nine-spot.

The balanced effort helped pace sophomore lefty Morgan Maxwell, who allowed three earned runs and struck out six.

Horton gave the Titans a lightning-fast lead. She singled, moved over to second, and scored on an overthrow while attempting to swipe third.

Reagan’s Bailey Huff answered in the bottom first by causing her own havoc on the base paths. She turned her infield single into a steal of second, then eventually scored from third on a wild pitch.

Freshman catcher Savannah Gornto had a big night for the Raiders. She singled to open the bottom of the second, and her courtesy runner would come home on a Lindy Davidson RBI to center.

West Forsyth ripped back the lead for good in the top of the third.

With two on and one out, Barringer blooped a single into right to plate Lilliana Parker. Maxwell moved to third on the play and crossed on an Alderman pop-up to second.

The Titans pushed their 3-2 lead to 5-2 in the top of the fifth when Moore reached on an error, and Horton followed with a two-run blast to dead center.

Caycee Wilson went the distance for Reagan, allowing six earned runs on 12 hits and striking out three. She went 1-for-4 at the plate with a triple and run scored in the bottom of the fifth to close her team’s deficit to 5-3.

Moore missed a three-run home run by inches in the top of the sixth. Instead, she settled for an RBI double to inflate West Forsyth’s lead to 6-3.

Reagan’s 6-7-8 hitters went 6-for-9 at the plate. Lindy Davidson’s second run-scoring hit of the night came in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 6-4 game.

Alderman provided the final blow for the Titans when she laced a double into the left-center gap to plate Barringer and give West a 7-4 advantage.

On Tuesday, the Titans will face another battle for the top spot in the Central Piedmont Conference when they return home to host Davie County.

Reagan opens next week with non-conference showdowns against West Stokes and High Point Christian Academy. The Raiders entered the week unbeaten but fell to 7-2 overall following losses to West Forsyth and Davie.
